Christopher Kukiel – Raising the Destroyer
IntaglioDo
what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. I was born and presently live in
Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I studied
at the Ontario College of Art and Design, where I graduated with Honours with a
major in Printmaking. I presently
work at the College in Printmaking as a Teacher’s Assistant and Technician,
developing my imagery through lithography and etching.
I’ve also been pursuing the medium of tattooing, facing the challenge
and thrill of creating permanent and living works of art for the individual. My interest in esotericism,
mythology and symbolism has laid the foundation for my artwork, giving my images
an iconic quality. Strange and
foreign glyphs, geometrical landscapes and spiritual themes permeate the
environments, they engage the viewer and give them the space to create and find
meaning, as with a mandala. The piece for this exhibition, Raising
the Destroyer, presents the icon of the serpent as the destroyer, surrounded
with the ritual of its awakening, filled with the spell of its power.
The text can only be known by patient translation which at once distances
and attracts the viewer, hinting at the mystery within. Love is the law, love under will. |
