Reflections
of the New Aeon
Held August 3 to 19, 2001
Gallery Eleven-Seven
and Raymundo's Art Gallery
117 linden Avenue
Long Beach, Ca 90802
Reflections of the New Aeon was
an unusual two-part exhibit curated by Los Angeles artists Carolyn
Tillie and Rob Cluff in two adjacent Long Beach galleries,
Eleven-Seven and Raymundo's. In one gallery, the viewer
experienced an unprecedented collection of historical artwork by the noted
Victorian occultist Aleister Crowley and several of his
devotees. Followers of Crowley, whose works were displayed,
include WWI General and one of the greatest military theorist of all
time J. F. C. Fuller; famed artist Austin
Osman Spare; painter, archivist, musicologist, filmmaker, and
anthropologist Harry Smith; and poet, artist, and actress Marjorie
Cameron.
Complementing and reflecting this
unusual collection was a juried art exhibition of 26 modern
artists from three countries. John Antoine Labadie, Chetna
Mehta and Joseph Miller are only a few of the American artists whose
works were accepted. International artists include Carmen Lucaci
from Romania and Christopher Kukiel
from Canada.
