Marjorie Cameron was an accomplished painter, poet, feminist, actress and occultist.  1926 - 1995

Born in Belle Plaines, Iowa in 1926, Marjorie Elisabeth "Cameron" Parsons Kimmel, was a seminal figure in the California assemblage art scene.

After the death of her first husband in 1952; famed rocket scientist / occultist, Jack Parsons. Cameron embarked on a career as a painter / poet / occultist / actor / feminist.  She played a pivotal roll in Kenneth Anger's film classic "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome" and was featured in films by Curtis Harrington.  An Accomplished artist, Cameron believed that art galleries prostituted artists and refused to sell her paintings.  Cameron wanted her work to be seen in its entirety after her death.  She corresponded with Joseph Campbell in the early 1960's and sent him slides of her paintings.  The five paintings presented here are from that collection.  Cameron died in 1995 and her work was posthumously included in the critically acclaimed "Beat" exhibition by the Whitney Museum of the same year.
